Much as I hate to think about how long I have been at it, I have been working with computers and computer languages for a long time. Both the technology and languages have evolved and multiplied and “computers” have also become ingrained in everything we use. There is always something new to learn!
Working on software for military products, and for testing those products, was a good lesson on the importance of reliability, accuracy and usability. Peoples’ lives were dependant on many of the communication products I helped work on, which creates a special awareness.
I like working in multi-disciplined team environment. Each job always required learning something new. I have also met some wonderful, smart and creative people. There has also been some occasionally interesting work environments (running some off-site testing in an airplane hanger on the Eglin Air Force base for one).
You can find my resume here .
As for home life, I have always had too many interests. I have explored a number of them but there is always something new.
I am still one of those anarchistic book readers, with a preference for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Mysteries. While the internet is a wonderful resource I still have a special fondness for my Tech books too.
I have done some artwork, jewelry making, beadwork, photography and costuming (both fantastic and historical). I love to travel but have not done as much as I would like. I like a good movie as well!
Through costuming, and the needs of both my local guild and the national
guild, I volunteered to assistant the webmaster for the ICG site
here: International Costumers Guild.
At the moment
it is mostly small updates but earlier I went through and modernized many of pages to
current HTML4 standards and added a bit of CSS styling.
Our local NJ/NY Costumers’ Guild’s website had become rather neglected. I started out volunteering as an assistant but ended up with the whole (unpaid) job. I have been improving things over this last 1 ˝ years and our group is good at coming up with ideas for content or pictures. They have eagle eyes for mistakes too!
I like working on meaningful projects rather then just hacking. It has also been a great motivator in learning new webmaster skills, as well as putting Photoshop to good use. I have become a big fan of the W3C Organization both for tutorials and their useful validation tools.
So here is the website. Be warned, we enjoy silly things so there is some silliness to the site: www.sickpupsnot.org
This was what it looked like originally: old site
I have also created a simple mobile version here: Mobile Site
I have explored a number of sports, fencing, horseback riding, ballet, racquet ball, Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, and just plain walking.
In the summer I take care of my Mother’s yard work and in winter, the snow shoveling. Over the last few years I have been trying to grow tomatoes and switched over to heirlooms. Mom’s yard also yields asparagus, strawberries and raspberries. This particular hobby is “Good Eats”!
Bye for now.
